(NECN: Ally Donnelly, Marshfield, Mass.) - Fluffy flakes are falling on the South Shore of Massachusetts.
In Braintree, the plows and salt are at the ready. In Hull, ocean spray seems to freeze mid-air. One woman said, "It's beautiful, the waves come so beautiful. It's very pretty."
And in Hingham, where the bell rang two hours early, the kids are too cool for school.
"I'm so psyched. I just needed a break, I really did," said student Sarah Milton. She says life can be taxing for a middle schooler.
The South Shore of Massachusetts was bracing for a winter storm.

Hull town manager Phil Lemnios said, "We're ready, let it snow. We haven't gotten much this year. It hasn't been too bad."
Preparing for snow that was expected much earlier in the day, officials shut down schools mid-day. By noon, just a few fluffy flakes had fallen.
Crossing guard Mary Ellen Londergan said, "I think it'll happen though." When asked whether or not to trust meteorologists, Londergan said "they've got to be right sometimes."
Along Nantasket beach in Hull, weekday warriors rushed to get their miles logged.
Carolyn White had a mile and a half left on her run to get back home. "My refrigerator is full, my cupboards are full. I'm going to bake some cupcakes and hang out with my kids," said the mother of four.
Larry Lathum came to sniff out the weather with dogs Rufus and Cocoa. He said he's working remotely from home today, but the dogs needed to go out. "I love watching the ocean. It just gets so violent and pretty and it's really stunning to see, especially when the wind kicks up," he said.
The winds kicked up at Brant Rock in Marshfield.
One man said, "it's like what a viking would dream of."
Peering over the sea wall, Alexus and Christian Shea were not so impressed with the crashing waves. "we come to see the waves and usually they're a lot bigger," they said. "it's cool to come down here and watch the waves instead of going to school and having to learn"
There's always a lesson to be learned from mother nature said Frank Svlioka. He got some work done outside as wind whipped around his ocean front home. "Oh it's fabulous," he said. "It's more fun in the storms than it is in summer. You've got to love it to live here and I'm crazy about it."
