‘Life-threatening' Flood Forecast on RI's Pawtuxet River

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The National Weather Service is
forecasting a "life-threatening" flood on Rhode Island's Pawtuxet
River, and a spokesman for the state Emergency Management Agency
says the state is facing a "very serious" and potentially
devastating flood situation.

The weather service says the state could get five to seven
inches of rain by late Tuesday, and the Pawtuxet could reach flood
stage by late Monday afternoon.

EMA spokesman Steve Kass says the storm is turning into "a
nightmare" and that the Blackstone River could also see the worst
flooding in 50 years.

He says officials are telling people who live in areas around
the Pawtuxet and the Blackstone where there has been flooding in
the past that, "it might not be a bad idea to evacuate."
