Storms Pushing Through Mid-Week

Meteorologist Tim Kelley gives an overview of this week in New England

Most of New England gets a clear view of this evening's 'Super Moon' rise at about 7:30 pm. There are a few showers (and perhaps a stronger thunderstorm) in New Hampshire and Maine, that will clear by 10 pm. Low humidity and light wind overnight with lows in the 50s and 60s.

Monday starts off with blue skies and light wind. Monday afternoon turns partly sunny with a few showers, high in the 80s, wind from the south 10-15 mph.

Humidity builds a bit on Tuesday as a veil of high thin clouds, followed by a lower marine cloud layer advances into New England, high int he 80s inland, 70s at the shore as wind picks up from the southeast to 15 mph late.

Rain and thunder arrive at sunset in western New England Tuesday, pushing to the east by Wednesday sunrise. Dual low pressure centers, one into Ontario, another along the south coast of New England, will generate heavy rain and thunder from midnight Tuesday through sunset Wednesday.

Bands of precipitation will be advancing from southwest to northeast, so we will have some sun in Maine early, and some sun in Connecticut late. This is a very dynamic system with potential for much lightning, flash flooding, and damaging wind, Powerful wind aloft can mix down in thunderstorms, and the threat for isolated tornadoes is also present.

Timing the potential dangers will become more clear as we close in on the event.

Thursday and Friday look mostly dry, but the potential for instability showers with thunder and hail, will remain present. Temperatures late week will be more typical of September than August, with highs in the 60s north and 70s south.
