Shubert Theater welcomes ‘Jersey Boys'

(NECN: Ally Donnelly, Boston, Mass.) – “Late December back in ’63. What a very special time for me, ’cause I remember, what a night!” Maybe you can’t place the artists, but we bet you know the song. It’s by Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons and there is a new musical at Boston’s Shubert Theater chronically their lives. Joseph Leo Bwarie always gets asked how he nails that Frankie falsetto. Bwarie plays Frankie Valli in “Jersey Boys” — the musical telling the mostly true story of Frankie Valley and the Four Seasons — blue collar New Jersey musicians turned pop music sensations in the 1960s. Matt Bailey plays Tommy DeVito and says he often gets lost in the moment, feeling like a real life rock star. “Jersey Boys” set a new sales record for the Shubert with more than $1.3 million in one week. That beats out the $600,000 record set by Riverdance. And, maybe that’s because there are more than 30 songs packed into the show. The show is playing at Boston’s Shubert Theater through the end of September.
