Former President Clinton makes surprise visit to North Korea

(NECN/ABC) – Former President Clinton has arrived on a surprise visit to North Korea. Clinton landed earlier landed at the airport in the capital, Pyongyang. He was greeted by the country’s Vice-President of the Supreme People’s Assembly and the vice-foreign minister who is also North Korea’s chief nuclear envoy Mr. Clinton is expected to return with Laura Ling and Euna Lee who’ve been in custody for more than four months. The two journalists were captured in March this year when reporting whilst on assignment. They had illegally crossed into North Korean territory from China and were then sentenced to 12 years of hard labour for entering the country illegally and engaging in – quote – hostile acts.
