NATO officials to consider proposals for troop surge in Afghanistan

(NECN/ABC) – NATO officials will meet on Saturday to consider proposals for a troop surge in Afghanistan, but the eyes of NATO countries are on President Barack Obama, who will take the lead when he decides whether to send more U.S. troops to Afghanistan, and if so, how many. Obama met with top advisers for three hours Wednesday as they consider General Stanley McChrystal’s request for more U.S. troops. Defense Secretary Robert Gates is believed to support McChrystal’s call for more troops. ABC’s TJ Winick has the latest.
