Suffolk in the City: Free Residential Parking to End?

Parking is a hot commodity in Boston, but the days of free on-street parking could soon be a thing of the past. Brandon Hyde has the details. City Council President Michelle Wu has included parking management in her campaign policy platform. Her plan is to charge a fee for on-street residential parking permits and use that revenue to enhance off-street parking options in hopes of making life easier for drivers.  One resident believes other than limiting the number of spots you can have, it should remain free for those who live in the city. Others agree that parking availability is an issue and believe enforcing a small annual fee does make sense. Right now, suburbs like Brookline, Somerville, and Cambridge have yearly fees ranging from $20-$40, so for now, all of teh people living in the city should enjoy those free spots while they can.
