CEO Corner: Joslin Diabetes Center's Initiatives

(NECN) - Diabetes is a deadly disease one of every eight American adults fights. With poor diet and obesity on the rise, experts fear it could affect one in three adults by 2050.

Joslin Diabetes Center in Boston leads the nation, and the world, in preventing and treating the disease, as well as the blindness, kidney failure and amputations it causes.

CEO John Brooks joins Peter Howe on CEO Corner to explain how Joslin is working to fight diabetes and discusses some of the initiatives, including the Translational Center for the Cure of Diabetes, funded by donors and a grant.

"We're really excited," said Brooks. "It was really an opportunity for us to literally bring innovation - how we really upgrade and update a lot of our facilities."

Brooks explains that exercise, an important factor in fighting diabetes, is a major part of Joslin's innovations.
