Heat wave helping to boost business

(NECN: Katie Daly) – The heat may be tough to handle, but its actually a boon for businesses that make money when the mercury rises. As the temperatures rise, so are sales at McDonalds Air Conditioning in Leicester. Between installations and repairs this crew has been busy. In fact sales are currently up 53 percent. Local hardware stores are also doing more business. Some business owners say they are now making up the sales they lost in July. At True Value hardware in Worcester shelves of household fans are nearly empty, From the shelves, the fans and air conditioners are apparently being put to use quickly. The Holden Municipal Light Company is reporting a surge in energy consumption. The Holden Municipal Light Company is urging customers to only turn on air conditioners and fans in the rooms that residents are using. They are also asking customers to limit the use of major appliances during the peak hours, which is from 3 pm into the early evening. But with possible record-breaking temperatures sometimes that advice is hard follow.
