Resume crafting: Putting your best foot forward

(NECN) – If you are one of the millions of Americans looking for a job, you might be running into some troubles with your resume. Ryan Sutton, vice president of the New England District for Robert Half International, has some tips for getting back into the job market by crafting a resume. You have a gap in your work history: Honesty is key, because if you can’t be honest about your time inbetween work, potential employers may see that. You’ve held a lot of jobs in a short amount of time: Make sure you can explain why it was such a short time. Try not to leave things off your work history. You’ve worked for only one company: Rather than just consolidate, list promotions as two separate jobs. It shows diversity in your career. You’ve held several temporary positions but few full-time roles: List the firm as your employer, with separate temp positions as projects completed. You’re a recent college graduate with little experience: It isn’t always important to list the year of graduation as it is the degree earned. You’re not sure how to list your GPA: If it’s good, definitely. Make sure it is relevant if you decide to include it. Your former employer changed its name: Use “formerly known as” and direct them to the company’s new website for easy access. For more, visit RHI.com.
