Thousands walk for Jimmy Fund

(NECN: Boston, Mass.) – More than 8,000 people, including cancer patients and survivors, laced up their sneakers on Sunday with a common goal — to conquer cancer. This year’s Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk was expected to raise more than $6.5 million to benefit the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Participants included 50 uniformed police chiefs from across Massachusetts, who walked in memory of former Southborough Chief Bill Webber, who died of pancreatic cancer a year ago. Walkers chose from five routes, including the entire 26.2-mile marathon route from Hopkinton to Boston. Since the first walk in 1989, participants have raised more than $60 million to support cancer research and care at Dana-Farber.
