7-Year-Old Rhode Island Boy Heads Home After Year in Hospital

A 7-year-old Rhode Island boy is heading home after spending a year in the hospital fighting for his life. Joey Alvarado has spent the past year at Franciscan Children’s in Brighton, Massachusetts, after going into pulmonary failure last December. Alvarado needed a lung transplant, which was a tough decision for his mom, Kristina Aguilar. It’s been a difficult road for the single mother of three who had to quit her job to be with her sick son away from their Providence home. But now Alvarado is healthy. And with his superhero cape and super strength, he is going home just in time for the holidays.
