Army of Volunteers Keeps Boston Marathon Running Smoothly

Over 1,000 volunteers prepared for the afternoon onslaught of 27,000 runners

(NECN: John Moroney, Boston) - Thousands took part in the annual 26.2-mile run from Hopkinton into Boston.

Volunteers are in place, as are family and friends. They're all awaiting the arrival of 27,000 runners.

Water and an army of volunteers are essential ingredients in the running of the Boston Marathon. There are over 1,000 volunteers.

Boylston Street was a beehive of activity Monday morning, even as runners made their way to the finish line.
