Clinton, Mass. Teen Found Face Down in Small Pool of Water

(NECN: Eileen Curran, Clinton, Mass.) - A Massachusetts community is grieving the loss of a teenager this morning after a tragic discovery.

The body of Mackenzie Hohl was found in Clinton Sunday, just days after she was reported missing.

We are learning more about the final hours of Mackenzie Hohl’s life.

Police are investigating the teen’s death but they say they do not believe foul play was involved. They believe she fell 20-30 feet and fell face down in some water.

It appears Mackenzie died of a tragic accident.

Her family is left grieving.

“She was a good kid,” says her grandmother, Sandra Sowa. “She was the love of my life.”
She left her grandmother’s home Friday, headed out for a night out with her friends.

When she didn’t come home, her family reported her missing and spent the next two days searching for her.

A young man walking on the train tracks behind a Hannaford supermarket found her body Sunday afternoon.

A candlelight vigil was held in her memory Sunday night at her high school, where Mackenzie was a sophomore.
Her grandmother remembers talking to Mackenzie before she left that night.

“My heart is broken,” says Sowa, “and I don’t know how to fix it.”

The District Attorney’s Office says the medical examiner will perform an autopsy for positive identification and also to determine the cause of death. They will also see whether Mackenzie had any drugs or alcohol in her system when she fell.
