Investigation Ongoing as 2 Confirmed Dead in 2-alarm Methuen, Mass. Fire

(UPDATE: 2/26/14, 3:30 PM) - The victims have been identified as James and Thelma McDermott.

(NECN: Katelyn Tivnan) – Officials have confirmed that two have died in an early-morning two-alarm fire in Methuen, Mass.

Flames broke out overnight at 22 Buttonwood Drive. Officials responded to the scene to find the house fully-engulfed in flames. They believe the bodies recovered from the building were those of an elderly couple.

The American Red Cross says other homes in the area are being evacuated.

The road remains closed.

The fire chief says there are no signs of working smoke detectors in the home.
