Legal Analyst: Death Penalty Decision Gives Tsarnaev Incentive to Plead Guilty

Michael Coyne explains that with prosecutors seeking death, Boston Marathon bombing suspect may change plea to save his life

(NECN) - On Thursday, it was announced that Attorney General Eric Holder will seek the death penalty for Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhokhar Tsarnaev.

There has been a lot of reaction from survivors of the attacks, law enforcement officials and lawmakers.

Legal analyst Michael Coyne joins NECN to discuss the decision.

"I think now, there is an incentive for the defendant to actually plead guilty, to forgo his appeals, in order to save his life over the next 60 years," said Coyne. "Absent that, he had no alternative but to actually try the case."
