Man Seriously Injured Carrying Burning Couch From Home

ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) — Enfield fire officials say a man has been seriously burned in a fire that also gutted his family's home.

Firefighters tell WFSB-TV the man unsuccessfully tried to remove a burning couch from the basement of the house just before midnight on Wednesday.

He and his family were able to escape the flames. Fire officials say the man, whose name has not been released, was taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with serious burns to hands.

The cause of the fire, which spread through the house, has not been determined.
