Review: 55 Pearl

(TV Diner) - Located downtown in the 130 plus year old historic Bull Mansion is a relatively new entry to Worcester's restaurant scene. 55 Pearl's walls are lightly appointed to allow you to take in the intricate wood carvings and other architectural details. Its menu is fitting of this grand environment with quality ingredients and techniques based in European styles with influences from around the culinary world.

Our meal began with a large portion of the Bolognese flatbread with house made meat sauce, basil, sage, and super crispy onion rings. We also tried the beef Carpaccio expertly prepared with flavorful accompaniments but with bread that was a bit less fresh than we would have liked.

Our first entre was the dry aged filet of beef with shiitake mushrooms over tasty handmade lobster ravioli with tomato barnaise sauce.

Our other entre was the grilled Kurobuta pork chop perfectly cooked and filled with flavorful juices and just enough fat for that true pork taste. It was topped with a cherry pepper butter and roasted fingerling potatoes.

Our desserts were the locally produced chocolate bourbon pecan pie, which was rich enough to make you sweat, and the beautiful fresh fruit tart. The service at 55 Pearl was remarkable.

From our greeting on through the rest of the meal, everyone was polite, engaging, and knowledgeable.

Appetizers and salads range from $ 7-$ 10, entrees from $ 14-$ 27, and desserts were $ 8. A good value for this type of service, atmosphere and food. Though located at a very old address, 55 Pearl makes you want to come by and see what's new. They earn the Platinum Plate!

Open for diner Monday through Saturday and open for lunch daily in their beautiful tavern.
