(NECN) - Researchers at Tufts and Yale have discovered a new human disease that comes from the same common deer tick that transmits Lyme Disease.
They say the tick can pass on a bacterial illness that causes flu-like symptoms.
They estimate about 1 percent of the population in areas where Lyme Disease is widespread might also be infected with this new bacteria.
Researchers described one case in which an 80-year-old New Jersey woman apparently got the illness and became confused, withdrawn, lost weight and developed difficulty hearing.
Still, they say she did recover with antibiotics.
