Toyota President Apologizes to Chinese Customers

BEIJING (AP) - Toyota President Akio Toyoda has apologized to
the company's customers in China following a slew of safety
problems. He says the country is an important market for the car
giant.

Toyoda told a news conference Monday that the massive worldwide
recalls of Toyotas has caused worries for Chinese customers. It was
Toyoda's said second foreign appearance following last week's visit
to Washington where he was grilled by angry lawmakers.
The number of Toyota vehicles recalled in China is only a small
percentage of the 8.5 million pulled worldwide since October for
sticky gas pedals, faulty floor mats and glitches in braking
software.
