TV Diner Review: Harbors Edge

Located behind the busy lobby of the Sheraton Hotel in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Harbor's Edge is a small, but comfortable hotel restaurant in nondescript decor with an American menu and many choices to satisfy seafood lovers, meat eaters or vegetarians.

We started with the Colossal Shrimp Cocktail. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, but a bit lacking in the quantity of cocktail sauce.

The Pan Seared Diver Scallops consisted of three scallops on a delicious wild mushroom risotto with lemon thyme butter. They were good, but just slightly under seared.

Our first entre of the Chicken Breasts with Roasted Portobello and Marsala was eloquently flavored and surrounded with roasted shallots, garlic mashed potatoes and wilted spinach -- distinctively good!

The Grilled Vegetable Pomodoro tossed together mushrooms, broccolini, asparagus, red peppers and black pepper fettucine with sundried tomato pesto cream and pecorino cheese and, again, made up a great combination of flavors.

Dessert was outstanding with a dense dark chocolate torte next to a mountain of fresh berries in a beautiful presentation.

Then the Trilogy Torte was just as extraordinary with three layers of mousse complimented with the same fresh berries. It was light, but indulgent. Service was fast and good, but our waitress left us for the hostess to take over!

Prices were competitive, with appetizers from $8 to $13, entrees ranging from $16 to $33 and all desserts $5.75. The Harbor's Edge is a pleasant restaurant saved from the noise of the hotel lobby by a flyng staircase and a live evening pianist who provides soft music for diners.

The food is good, and the desserts are outstanding. With comfortable seating, nice presentation, decent service, variety in menu and prices appropriate for quality and quantity, it is a nice place to eat. Harbor's Edge earns the Gold Plate.
