Apple farmers reporting excellent crop

(NECN: Katie Daly, North Brookfield, Mass.) – All of this summer’s rain may have a silver lining after all. Local apple farmers are reporting the best apple crop they’ve seen in years. At Brookfield orchards in North Brookfield, the apples are ready to be picked. “This has been an excellent growing season. We’ve had a lot of rain so the apples are big and juicy they’re ripe right now.” Its best crop that David Nydam has seen in years. The farm has been in his wife’s family since 1918. He plants on 39 acres of land and grows a variety to chose from. Right now we’re picking Macs and Cortland and maybe in a few weeks we’ll pick the McCann. Its one of our seasonal favorites.” Nydam expects this weekend to be the busiest of the season. The Bernards got an early start Friday afternoon. Like many families they have made apple picking a family tradition. “We’ve been out here a few times, we like to come out and grab some apples its local.”
