Beach divided into two for Middletown, RI

(NECN/WPRI) – In Middletown Rhode Island, the beach has been divided in two this weekend. Surfers only allowed in one half, swimmers allowed in the other. Life guards and beach staff at ‘Second Beach’ are kicking it up a notch. Handing out warning slips to let beach goers know about the dangerous conditions. Life guards are actually showing swimmers what to do if you get caught by a rip current. By mid day Saturday, beach management started red flagging certain parts of the ocean to keep swimmers away from hazardous areas. Conditions are expected to worsen Sunday. Rips currents are actually more prevalent after a storm.
