Director of Walter Reed Amputee Program speaks at WPI

(NECN: Kenneth Craig) – With U.S. Troops continuing to suffer wounds on the battlefield, there is continued need for advances in medical care. It was the focus of an event at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. At Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., hundreds of critically injured soldiers are rebuilding their strength, and their lives after the battlefield. Many of those soldiers have lost arms or legs, but thanks to new advancements in prosthetics, those same soldiers are also getting new opportunities to improve their quality of life. Lt. Colonel Paul Pasquina heads the Amputee Program at the medical center. Today, he’s spoke to researchers at a conference at the Worcester Polytechnic Institute.
