Discovery arrives atop modified jet

(NECN/WFTV: Cape Canaveral, Fla.) – The space shuttle Discovery returned to Florida on Monday, following a trip to orbit and cross-country trip. Discovery landed at the Kennedy Space Center at noon on Monday atop a modified 747 jet, which left Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana earlier in the morning. Monday’s trip was the final leg in the journey which began as a two-week mission in which the shuttle’s crew delivered fresh supplies to the International Space Station. Due to stormy weather, Discovery was unable to land in Florida. It instead landed in California at a detour cost of nearly $2 million. The flight atop the modified jumbo jet began on Sunday at Edwards Air Force Base in California, where it originally landed. The space shuttle is schedule to next fly in spring.
