Family Health Center holds fair in Worcester

(NECN: Katie Daly, Worcester, Mass.) – There was music and balloons but it wasn’t your average fair. On Friday, Family Health of Worcester hosted its annual neighborhood health fair. Underneath these tents participants were introduced to a variety of services available at the center. Some received free health screenings. Members of the centers HIV program were on hand offering free testing and educating the public about the disease. “Just get your mammograms.” That’s what Pat Carey director of radiology told women stopping by her booth. Breast cancer awareness was another big focus of the day. One of the reasons why this fair is held every year is because many people in the community are not even aware that these resources are available to them. People perhaps living in these homes here are not aware of the services our health center can provide for them. Health fairs like this let them know about services from the community this a way to get people to know what’s going on. Family Health Center of Worcester has been hosting the fair for 36 years. Organizers say that this installment was one of the largest.
