FBI investigates bomb scare on flight to Boston

(NECN: Brad Puffer) – The FBI is investigating a bomb scare on board a flight from Miami to Boston. Authorities say a threatening note was found on an American Airlines plan last night, about 40 minutes after takeoff. The plane turned around and went back to Miami. The passengers had to stay overnight and return to Boston today. Their plane arrived safely but a day late. Thursday night, while flying from Miami to Boston, Americans Airlines flight 1640 suddenly turned around, making an emergency landing back in Miami, because someone discovered a threatening note in a bathroom. Alisabeth Marrocco, Warwick, RI: “When they said it was a threat to the plane that is was mechanical, I thought we might not make it back to the airport in time it was scary.” Dana MacKenzie, Moultonborough, NH: “It was just really scary just all the bad things you hear about so yes it was really scary.” At first the 168 passengers did not know that note suggested their was a bomb on board. But pretty quickly passengers knew flight attendants were very concerned. Hugh McLaughlin, Boston: “We were very nervous at first, especially when the stewardess said nobody use their cell phone we thought their might be a reason for that.” Eugene Emmanu, Boston: “Don’t touch anything, everyone stay in your place don’t do anything at all when you get off the plane leave your cell, leave everything, just you. Despite that frightening half hour in the air, most passengers say the airline handled it very well. Paul LaRocque, Moultonborough NH: “They kept it cool, everybody on there there was no panic, it was very well taken care.” John Madeiro, Naples, FL: “Everything went well I think they did a very nice job in providing our safety. We had to stay overnight but that was ok too.” That plane was thoroughly searched by the FBI and Miami police. Passengers returned Friday without incident, most just happy to be safely home.
