Holy Cross students getting back to their ‘roots'

(NECN: Katie Daly, Worcester, Mass.) – Some Holy Cross students are helping to feed the homeless. They are not collecting canned goods, but instead, they are working the land, growing the food themselves. Their efforts got off to a shaky start this year, but they are looking to improve next year. 50 years ago, all of the food served in the college’s dining hall was grown in a garden at the school. While this harvest isn’t enough to feed today’s student body, Robert Bertin, who is a biology professor at the college, believes it is a step in the right direction. Students plan on serving the food in the dining hall. They want to give a large portion of the fresh produce to local homeless shelters. In the years to come, the students would like to expand the garden so that there is more to go around.
