Intergenerational battle of the bands held in Sutton

(NECN: Katie Daly) – The Sutton High School Band is getting a lesson in music history. They’re facing off against senior citizen members of the Trinity Orchestra, and its all part of the inter-generational battle of the bands. It was the seniors vs. the seniors of Sutton High School. The two groups played at the Sutton Senior Center for what was called The Battle of the Bands. A music competition for two very different generations. The Trinity Orchestra, formed in 1921, consists of 16 members, mostly World War II veterans. They played a variety of songs, hoping not to date themselves. The Sutton High School band has been playing together for the past three years, the band consists of mostly honors students, and they stuck with some basic tunes. And that was the tone set by the group’s leader, 90-year-old Lee Bartlett. What was supposed to be a competition became more of a jam session of sorts. The two generations came together, at times playing in perfect harmony, and showing each other a thing or two. In the end both sides walked away with an award much grander than any prize
