Number of COVID-19 Cases in Maine Jumps to 275

There are 3 fatal cases from the coronavirus, according to the Maine CDC

The number of COVID-19 cases in Maine increased to 275 on Monday, up 22 cases from the day before, according to Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention Director Nirav D. Shah, M.D.

Shah's update came after the state on Sunday reported its second and third deaths from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Two of the fatal cases include a woman in her 80s and a man in his 60s, both from Cumberland County. The man was a longtime employee of the Maine Department of Transportation.

Thirteen of Maine's 16 counties have now reported COVID-19 cases, according to numbers released by the Maine CDC. The majority of the cases are in Cumberland County and in York County.

Shah said of the cases, 49 people were hospitalized at some point and 41 have recovered from the virus.

Forty-three of the cases are health care workers. The CDC is investigating how those workers were infected, Shah said.

Gov. Janet Mills last week declared a state of civil emergency earlier in the week. Under the order, schools and businesses throughout the state are closed to the public.
