A former Maine state prison guard has been convicted of inappropriately touching a young girl.

Travis Lyon, of Vassalboro, was convicted by a jury Tuesday in Kennebec County Superior Court of three counts unlawful sexual contact.

Prosecutors say he touched the girl several times between March 2011 and August 2013 starting when she was 11. She is now 14.

His defense attorney countered that there were no witnesses and no evidence of the conduct. Lyon took the stand in his own defense to deny the charges.

The Morning Sentinel reports
that Lyon, who had been free on bail, was taken into custody pending sentencing, which will be held in the future.

Lyon used to work at the Maine State Prison in Warren.
