A Maine man is facing drug trafficking charges after authorities say he was found with a large quantity of methamphetamine while getting off the Amtrak Downeaster in Brunswick.
John Katula, 44, of Brunswick, was arrested Monday afternoon on charges of trafficking schedule with drugs (methamphetamine), possession of a schedule with drug — (methamphetamine), and violation of conditions of release, according to the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Authorities said Katula was returning from Boston when Maine Drug Enforcement Agents, Brunswick police, state police and Amtrak Police approached him while he exited the train.
Agents seized 108 grams of methamphetamine with a street value of $10,000 as well as other items associated with drug distribution.
According to investigators, Katula planned to distribute the methamphetamine in Cumberland and Androscoggin counties.
Katula was expected to appear in court in Portland sometime on Wednesday. It's unclear if he has an attorney.
