A Biddeford, Maine, man is facing charges that he sold heroin near a city school.
Authorities say 34-year-old Edward Matthewson turned himself in this week after a months-long investigation that included the sale of heroin to undercover Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents.
Police say he is facing a charge of aggravated trafficking in heroin because he allegedly sold drugs within 1,000 feet of Saint James School, a small parochial school.
Matthewson remains in the York County Jail on $50,000 cash bail awaiting an initial court appearance. It could not be determined if he has a lawyer.
Neighborhood residents say they have seen drug deals taking place out in the open during daylight hours and are concerned about their own safety.
The investigation is ongoing.
