2 Injured After Driver Flees Traffic Stop, Crashes Into Utility Pole

Police in Weymouth, Massachusetts, say a person was arrested in Abington after he allegedly fled a traffic stop and crashed into two utility poles, injuring himself and his passenger.

Police in Weymouth, Massachusetts, say a person was arrested in Abington after he allegedly fled a traffic stop and crashed into two utility poles, injuring himself and his passenger.

The crash happened around 2 a.m. at 1200 Bedford St.

Police say an officer observed a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed in Independence Square in Weymouth.

When he attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly drove off and ended up crashing into the two poles, causing the vehicle to flip on its side.

The driver, 24-year-old Jevaun Jacques from Dorchester, told police he thought they had a warrant and didn't want to go to jail right before his birthday. Jacques also has a suspended license.

He was transported to South Shore Hospital with minor injuries. He was issued a citation at the hospital for operating after license suspension, failure to stop for police, operating to endanger and speeding.

The passenger, a 26-year-old male, was transported to South Shore Hospital with serious injuries.
