Bail Lowered for Man Accused of Drugging, Robbing Gay Men

A Norwood, Massachusetts, man charged with drugging gay men so he could steal from them has pleaded not guilty.

Riccardo D'Orsainville had his bail lowered to $100,000 Wednesday at his arraignment on charges including kidnapping, poisoning and larceny.

Prosecutors say the 51-year-old D'Orsainville pretended to be an aristocratic European to meet three men in 2013. Authorities say he earned invitations to their homes to drink alcohol, then drugged them so they passed out, and then stole artwork, jewelry, electronics and clothes.

D'Orsainville's attorney said in court that the alleged victims were motivated to complain by "relationship regret" and "buyer's remorse."

Court records indicate that D'Orsainville is a Haitian national with a criminal record who avoided deportation because he may be subjected to discrimination in his homeland based on sexual orientation.
