Crews Remain on Scene of 5-Alarm Fire

It was smoky scene as flames ripped through the old Armstrong Pharmaceuticals building in Boston's West Roxbury neighborhood

Firefighters continue to battle a 5-alarm fire at an old pharmaceutical factory in Boston's West Roxbury neighborhood Thursday morning.

Police and fire are still on scene Thursday morning at 423 LaGrange St. and investigators are trying to determine how this fire started.

It was smoky scene as flames ripped through the old Armstrong Pharmaceuticals building.

One resident in the area said, “I was going back to school and just hazy smoke on VFW.”

Onlookers watched as the now-vacant building was destroyed. It had been empty for about three years and was labeled a hazard because it was deteriorating.

Neighbor John Ragusa said, “They specialized in aerosol containers. It was Armstrong Laboratories. It employed a lot of people back in the 70s and 80s, but it’s been closed for a while.”

Investigators are looking into whether people may have been in or near the building before the fire.

Firefighters didn’t go in because the building was so dangerous.

The building was vacant and no one was hurt.
