Deb Goldberg Sworn-in as Massachusetts Treasurer

Massachusetts has a new treasurer.

Democrat Deb Goldberg was sworn-in to the post at the Statehouse on Wednesday by Republican Gov. Charlie Baker.

Goldberg was elected to the post in November. She succeeds Steve Grossman, who ran unsuccessfully for governor.

Goldberg's family founded the Stop & Shop supermarket chain and she previously served six years on the Brookline Board of Selectmen.

After being sworn-in, the new treasurer pledged to work with the Republican governor to help solve the state's budget deficit and she warned against any effort to "raid" the state's reserves, better known as the rainy day fund.

Goldberg also said her office would modernize state lottery terminals and launch a statewide financial literacy program.

She is the first Jewish woman to serve as a state constitutional officer.
