The bloody necks of two horses are the results of a bear attack in East Brookfield, Massachusetts.

According to The Telegram & Gazette, Brooke Perry, 14, discovered the injuries on Friday night when she was petting the horses.

"I was rubbing his neck and i felt something sticky," she said. That is when she noticed the blood on her hands.

The veterinarian, who came to the farm on Podunk Road, sedated the horses to clean and suture the wounds.

Horse hair and blood were later found in the large paddock where the horses were kept on Friday. There were also signs of the horses stamping their hooves and tracks in the sand that the state Environmental Police examined. It was concluded that a bear was the culprit of the attacks.

Although bear attacks are not common on farms, there has been a few in recent years.

Bear hunting is allowed in some areas of Massachusetts in the fall, and bears causing damage to livestock can be killed at any time.

The Perry's, however, are not ready to go after the bear yet. They are hoping the horses put up an impressive enough fight and that the bear will not come back.
