Congressman Joe Kennedy has just come home from a trip overseas to address the border crisis in Central America.

He joined us in the studio to discuss the details of his trip and what they mean.

He said seven congressmen, including four Democrats and three Republicans traveled to Honduras, Salvador and Guatemala to dive into some of the problems associated with illegal immigrant children coming to the border.

He said the biggest take-away of the trip are the factors that are causing parents to send their children on the extremely dangerous trip the border through territory controlled by drug cartel.

Kennedy said that violence was a big issue and so was inability of police or government to control any of that violence. He said that 90 percent of the murders in the country go unprocessed.

He said, “There’s no easy answer to it.”

He said it boils down to four different initiatives including provide assistance to local governments, making the immigration process in the U.S. better and addressing the drug trade differently.
