Traffic Restored After Delays Caused by Massive Pothole in Haverhill, Massachusetts

The pothole occurred on the center lane of a bridge over the Merrimack River

Traffic is restored on I-495 Friday evening after major delays caused by a massive pothole discovered Friday morning.

A large pothole caused traffic delays on I-495 southbound near Exit 38 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, on Friday morning.

Traffic is flowing again on I-495 in Haverhill, Massachusetts, Friday evening after major delays associated with a massive pothole discovered Friday morning. 

The pothole occurred on the center lane of a bridge over the Merrimack River. The river could be seen through the hole. 

The pothole caused traffic delays on I-495 southbound near Exit 48 on Friday morning.

The traffic was cut down to one lane, while crews were working. The traffic was cleared just before 5 p.m. 

According to witnesses, the pothole is on the bridge over the Merrimack River between River Street and Ward Hill.
