Massachusetts Homeless Man Whose Story Went Viral Arrested

A Massachusetts homeless man who made national news when a stranger who had just won a $200 lottery prize paid for him to stay in a hotel on one of the coldest nights of the year has been arrested on a charge of failing to register as a sex offender.

New Bedford police tell The Standard-Times that 59-year-old Glenn Williams was arrested Thursday.

The woman paid for the room last weekend when she saw Williams panhandling.

Another woman who helped Williams says he was released to the custody of a resident of a home where he's now staying.

Williams said through the woman he pleaded guilty to an indecent assault on a child charge dating to 1994 on the advice of a public defender even though the allegations were untrue.
