Police say a trooper was on foot while he was trying to stop a motorcycle in Revere, Massachusetts; the trooper was hospitalized after being struck.
A motorcyclist fled the scene after striking a Massachusetts State Police trooper while drunk, the department said Saturday night.
The trooper was hit by the motorcycle around 5:30 p.m. Saturday on Revere Beach Boulevard. He had just gotten out of his cruiser after stopping another car.
Police say the rider had been seen moments earlier speeding and riding recklessly.
The motorcyclist hit the trooper, who was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital. He sustained injuries to his head and his upper body; he was undergoing tests Saturday night.
The operator, 26-year-old Danilo DiRoche of Lynn, was taken to Whidden Hospital for possible minor injuries. He faces charges including operating under the influence of liquor, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, leaving the scene of a crash that caused personal injury, failure to stop, driving to endanger and other driving violations.
Diroche is expected to be booked by state police upon his release from the hospital. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.
The trooper sustained a contusion, laceration injuries and possibly a concussion.
