As Celtics fans wake up Friday morning there is going to be a little bit of sadness as the C's have now traded point guard Rajon Rondo to Dallas. But Rondo is thanking fans for everything, saying, “My time in Boston has meant so much.”
The deal was finalized Thursday night.
For Rondo and for Dwight Powell to Dallas, the Celtics will gain Jameer Nelson, Jae Crowder, and Brandon Wright, two draft picks and a $12.9 million trade exception.
Boston got a first round pick in next year’s draft and a second round pick in 2016. The Celtics now have eight first-round picks in the next four years as they shed the pieces that earned the franchise it's unprecedented 17th NBA title in 2008.
This deal apparently has been the making for years, but up until now Boston management decided that other offers weren't good enough.
Rondo, 28, has been with the Celtics since 2006 and he Tweeted his thanks to his loyal fans.
My time in Boston has meant so much. I've grown up with this city both as a basketball player and person. The love I have for the most loyal — Rajon Rondo (@RajonRondo) December 19, 2014
