Strong Winds Cause Damage Across Boston

Strong winds are believed to be responsible for bring down the old rotten louvers at First Baptist Church

Strong winds created scary situations for Boston residents Thursday, and Boston city officials say a violation will be issued after wooden pieces fell off a church in the Back Bay.

Strong winds are believed to be responsible for bring down the old rotten louvers at First Baptist Church.

A Boston Inspectional Services worker says the pieces of old wood are at least 10-feet long and are used to cover open windows in the building.

They say the falling debris has been an ongoing problem.

Several blocks of Commonwealth Avenue by the Boston Garden were at one point shut down to traffic because of it.

The winds, which hit 50 MPH, caused other problems in the city, including the collapse of an old garage in Dorchester.

Debris from two billboards on the Leverett Connector also flew off.

MassDOT crews say there were no reports of debris hitting any cars.
