A student is now facing criminal charges for allegedly pushing his teacher into a filing cabinet because she confiscated his cellphone

A Weymouth High School student in Massachusetts is now facing criminal charges for allegedly pushing his teacher into a filing cabinet because she confiscated his cellphone.

Police said Wednesday the 15-year-old freshman is facing charges of assault and battery on a public employee and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. His name was not released because he is a juvenile.

School officials say the incident occurred Tuesday morning.

In addition to his legal troubles, the student faces school discipline. The school is conducting an investigation and school committee Chairman Sean Guilfoyle tells The Patriot Ledger punishment could include expulsion.

Superintendent Kenneth Salim says the school is also reviewing safety procedures.

The teacher was checked out by the school nurse and was not seriously injured.
