Drunk Man Chases Bear With Dull Hatchet: Cops

Officials say they have not determined what the man’s plan was if he caught up to the bear

A drunk man tried to chase a bear through the woods in North Adams, Massachusetts, armed with nothing but a dull hatchet, police say.

The man was taken into protective custody after the Monday night pursuit, police say.

It's unclear what the man planned to do if he caught up with the bear, officials said.

"Chasing bears through the woods drunk with a dull hatchet is strongly not advised," police added.

In the event a resident sees a bear, police advise to leave it alone.

"We certainly don't need anyone going all Davy Crockett chasing it through the woods drunk with a dull hatchet," police continued in their post on Facebook. "It is just a bad idea and not going to end well."

Police added, "We are still trying to figure out what his end game was."
