Obama changes schedule to eulogize Sen. Kennedy

(NECN: Ally Donnelly, Chilmark, Mass.) – President Obama is vacationing on Martha’s Vineyard this week with his family. He will change his schedule to take part in services for Senator Kennedy. The president will deliver the eulogy at Saturday’s funeral service. It was about 2 am Wednesday morning when aides on his vacation retreat woke President Barack Obama to tell him a mentor and friend had died. Over the past few years the relationship between the president and the senior Senator from Massachusetts had deepened. It was Obama that had given the commencement at Kennedy’s stepdaughter’s graduation when the senator was too sick to do it himself. It was Kennedy who shrugged off doctors orders and attended Obama’s inauguration. NECN’s Ally Donnelly has more from Martha’s Vineyard.
