Driver Dead, Passengers Seriously Injured in Sumner Tunnel Crash Early Sunday

Authorities closed the tunnel to Storrow Drive while responding to the scene of the car crash.

A car crashed in Boston's Sumner Tunnel early Sunday morning, leaving the driver dead and two passengers seriously injured, authorities said.

Massachusetts State Police said the crash occurred around 3:20 a.m. on the ramp from the Sumner Tunnel to Storrow Drive. The driver, a 24-year-old man from Northampton, died at the scene. The passengers, only identified by authorities as an 18-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, were taken to a nearby hospital with serious injuries.

The ramp from the Sumner Tunnel to Storrow Drive was closed while authorities responded to the scene, but it has since reopened, police said.

No additional information was released.
