Police search woods where Mass. teen disappeared in 1989

(NECN: Ally Donnelly, Woburn, Mass.) – There are more questions than answers following a police search in Woburn, Massachusetts. Today, state and local investigators returned to the place where 14-year-old Melanie Melanson disappeared in 1989. Detectives are remaining tight-lipped about their investigation. Using a backhoe, police searched a wooded area behind the Kraft plant in Woburn, not far from where Melanie was last seen. The Middlesex District Attorney’s office will only confirm that police are excavating as part of an investigation. They will not say whether they are looking for Melanie’s body. Melanie hasn’t been since October 27, 1989. Investigators say she had been drinking with friends in the woods about a mile from her house. NECN’s Ally Donnelly has more.
