Officers fatally shot a man who allegedly pulled a gun on police.

Police shot and killed a man authorities say pointed a gun at officers Tuesday afternoon in Raynham, Massachusetts.

Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn said Tuesday evening that officers responded to the King Philip Street home of a man who had been arrested and released a day earlier. The resident, identified as 35-year-old Stephen Maclean, allegedly opened the door and pulled a gun on them.

Quinn said a stun gun was deployed, and two officers discharged their firearms.

Maclean was brought to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No officers were injured.

"This was a very dangerous incident where our officers had a firearm pointed at them by an armed individual," Raynham Police Chief David LaPlante. "Our officers responded consistent with their training and rendered emergency medical aid to the suspect until paramedics arrived."

According to Quinn, Maclean was arrested Monday "on charges of witness intimidation and disorderly conduct for an ongoing court case that involved his girlfriend."

Quinn said he had been on probation for a second-offense charge of operating under the influence.

"The probation department requested that he be detained, and he was released by the court," Quinn said.

Quinn said Maclean's girlfriend told police after his release that he went to work intoxicated and was fired.

Quinn's office is investigating the incident.

"We want to have careful reviews of these cases, but this is an individual who, without any justification, from what we know at this point, opened the door and pulled a firearm on four officers there lawfully doing their job," Quinn said.
